Prioritize Optimal Vision

Most people don’t consider their eyesight and vision health until there’s a problem. And, there’s a common misconception that if you see well, your eyes must be healthy. But, many serious, sight-threatening eye diseases have no early warning symptoms.
Your eyeDOCS optometrist has the skills and experience to detect many of these eye conditions in their earliest stages. They also have the compassion to perform your eye exam with kindness and understanding.
When Should I Visit eyeDOCS?

Our optometrists at eyeDOCS adore seeing their patients, regardless of how often they come in. If you have healthy eyes, you can schedule visits according to the list below. But if you have a predisposition to eye diseases or other medical conditions, we may recommend more frequent appointments. If you’re not sure when you should visit us, have a look at the recommended eye exam schedule set out by the Canadian Optometric Association based on age:
- Birth to 12 months: first eye exam between 6 and 9 months
- 2 to 5 years: at least one eye exam during this time
- 6 to 19: annual eye exams
- 20 to 39: eye exams every 2 to 3 years
- 40 to 64: eye exams every 2 years
- 65 and older: annual eye exams
Through comprehensive eye examinations, we can detect many general health conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. For patients with diabetes, learn more about our diabetic eye exams.

What Does an Eye Exam Include?

At eyeDOCS, we view your eye health as a treasure, and we take great care in helping you maintain it. A comprehensive eye exam not only reveals the status of your eye health but can also indicate the state of your overall health. Have a look at each level of eye exam to see what might be included.
Adult Eye Exams
An eye exam is more than just reading letters off an eye chart—it’s a complete, comprehensive, and detailed evaluation of your visual ability, vision, and eye health. Your comprehensive eye examination at any of our clinics will include:
- A review of your health and vision history
- Visual acuity examination
- Ocular motility examination
- Refraction (test for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia)
- Measurement of eye pressure
- Eye health exam
- Retinal imaging
Senior Eye Exams
Senior eye exams are similar to adult eye exams, but with special attention paid to age-related diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. For patients with diabetes, we will closely monitor signs of diabetic retinopathy, and we recommend that you have yearly diabetic eye exams.
Start Focusing on Your Eye Health

So why are eye exams essential for your vision health? Early intervention gives a person the best possible chance of maintaining good vision.
