Most people don’t consider their eyesight and vision health until there’s a problem. And, there’s a common misconception that if you see well, your eyes must be healthy. But, many serious, sight-threatening eye diseases have no early warning symptoms.

Your eyeDOCS optometrist has the skills and experience to detect many of these eye conditions in their earliest stages. They also have the compassion to perform your eye exam with kindness and understanding.

When Should I Visit eyeDOCS?

Our optometrists at eyeDOCS adore seeing their patients, regardless of how often they come in. If you have healthy eyes, you can schedule visits according to the list below. But if you have a predisposition to eye diseases or other medical conditions, we may recommend more frequent appointments. If you’re not sure when you should visit us, have a look at the recommended eye exam schedule set out by the Canadian Optometric Association based on age:

  • Birth to 12 months: first eye exam between 6 and 9 months
  • 2 to 5 years: at least one eye exam during this time

  • 20 to 39: eye exams every 2 to 3 years
  • 40 to 64: eye exams every 2 years

Senior eye exams are similar to adult eye exams, but with special attention paid to age-related diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. For patients with diabetes, we will closely monitor signs of diabetic retinopathy, and we recommend that you have yearly diabetic eye exams.
