The Benefits of Laser Eye Surgery

There are many reasons to consider laser eye surgery. First and foremost, it is an excellent option for improving your vision.

You may be looking for clearer vision after living with a refractive error for many years, or you could be looking to correct cataracts that are developing. Either way, eyeDOCS is excited to guide you through the process.

While we hope you experience improved vision from laser eye surgery, not everyone will be able to ditch their glasses or contact lenses entirely. We will go over the details of what you can expect from laser eye surgery in our consultation.

Types of Laser Eye Surgery

There are several different types of laser eye surgery. At eyeDOCS, we can guide you through the process of improving your vision, and we can help you decide which types of corrective surgery will suit your needs and lifestyle.

Intralase SBK

The Intralase Sub-Bowman’s keratomileusis (SBK) procedure cuts a very thin flap in the cornea, moving it out of the way while the surgeon reshapes the tissues with an excimer laser (this is the step that corrects your vision). This procedure is similar to LASIK, which also creates a flap, but Intralase SBK cuts an even thinner layer of the cornea, minimizing healing time.

Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) is a minimally invasive refractive correction surgery that does not require a flap in the cornea to complete. The SMILE surgery creates a small incision to access the tissue in the cornea, which is then reshaped by a laser. Afterward, the surrounding tissue where the incision was made heals back together.

Clear lens exchange, also known as refractive lens exchange (RLE), replaces your eye’s natural lens with an artificial one to provide clear vision. RLE is similar to the procedure used to replace the eye’s lens when it is affected by cataracts. Find out more about cataract surgery on our Eye Disease Diagnosis & Management page.

How Long Does IPL Dry Eye Treatment Last?

Eye care

For about 30% of Canadians, dry eyes are a near-constant irritation. They can happen because the eyes don’t create enough tears or because an imbalance in the tear film causes tears to evaporate too quickly. Whatever the reason, if you’re the one dealing with dry eyes, you probably just want relief. Fortunately, there are options […]

Do Blue Light Glasses Help with Dry Eyes?

Dry Eye

Blue light glasses or blue light-blocking lenses can sound high-tech and cool. So much so that the sale of blue light glasses has risen since 2020, mainly due to increased time spent staring at digital screens.  In theory, blue light glasses help to reduce eyestrain and symptoms of eyestrain, including dry eyes. Even without much […]
