How We Became Who We Are

eyedocs icon

Allow us to regale you with the story of how we got where we are today and the foundation of our clinics.

eyeDOCS traces its roots from the practice of Dr. Earl Whan in the late 1950s. In 1967, Drs. Roland des Groseilliers and Margaret Hansen-des Groseilliers purchased the Billings Bridge Plaza location. To accommodate the growing practice, the Billings Bridge clinic saw 2 expansions in 1972 and 1978.

In 1990, we built a new office that is still the home of the eyeDOCS Ottawa optometric clinic at 1285 Kilborn Avenue. In 1997 the eyeDOCS Westboro optometric clinic was established on Richmond Road in Westboro. To keep up with ever-increasing patient volumes the Kilborn clinic was renovated in 2008 and again in 2016 to provide an inviting open-concept space, and the Westboro clinic moved and doubled its size in 2010.

To Ottawa’s growing communities, the eyeDOCS Kanata optometric clinic (located on March Road) and the eyeDOCS Riverside South optometric clinic (located on Limebank Road) were added in 2012. Then, eyeDOCS Preston was added in 2013 and was later closed in February of 2023. Our newest clinic, eyeDOCS Barrhaven, opened in 2017.

In October 2011, after more than 40 years of practice, Drs. des Groseilliers and Hansen-des Groseilliers retired. Today, the practice counts 4 partners. Our team of optometrists has experience in a number of specialized fields such as sports vision, pediatric eye care, senior eye care, night vision testing, neonatal, cataract removal follow-up, contact lenses, binocular vision, etc.

Our knowledgeable opticians and optometric assistants will ensure that your vision needs are professionally met and that you also look fantastic!

How Long Does IPL Dry Eye Treatment Last?

Eye care

For about 30% of Canadians, dry eyes are a near-constant irritation. They can happen because the eyes don’t create enough tears or because an imbalance in the tear film causes tears to evaporate too quickly. Whatever the reason, if you’re the one dealing with dry eyes, you probably just want relief. Fortunately, there are options […]

Do Dry Eyes Cause Styes?

Dry Eye

Do Dry Eyes Cause Styes? Dealing with uncomfortable dry eye symptoms is annoying enough, let alone wondering if the condition is causing other problems. For example, because they can happen at the same time you’re experiencing dry eyes, some people may wonder if styes are caused by dry eye disease. The short answer is no, […]

Do Blue Light Glasses Help with Dry Eyes?

Dry Eye

Blue light glasses or blue light-blocking lenses can sound high-tech and cool. So much so that the sale of blue light glasses has risen since 2020, mainly due to increased time spent staring at digital screens.  In theory, blue light glasses help to reduce eyestrain and symptoms of eyestrain, including dry eyes. Even without much […]
