Protect Your Child’s Eyes for a Lifetime of Clear Vision

Your child’s vision is an essential part of their learning. It affects how they read, write, and develop hand-eye coordination and social skills. In fact, more than 80% of learning is done through the eyes, and 1 in 6 children has a vision problem that affects their learning.
Regularly scheduled visits to the optometrist can ensure success for your child both in and outside of the classroom. Don’t wait until signs and symptoms arise. Protect your child’s eye today by booking an appointment.
When Should My Child Get an Eye Exam?

A comprehensive eye exam for your little one ensures their eyes are developing on track and reaching important visual milestones. Regularly visiting an optometrist can catch any eye conditions that may go unnoticed. Young children rarely complain about visual issues because they may not have a frame of reference for what normal vision looks like.
For frequency of examinations, the Canadian Association of Optometrists suggests:
- Birth to 12 months: first eye exam between 6 and 9 months
- 2 to 5 years: at least one eye exam during this time
- 6 to 19: annual eye exams

What to Expect During a Pediatric Eye Exam

When you bring your little one in for an exam, we strive to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. During their appointment, we’ll include the following:
- A review of your child’s health and vision history
- Tests for myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, colour vision, amblyopia (lazy eye), crossed eyes, eye coordination, depth perception, and focusing ability
- An eye health examination
Suppose your child experiences difficulty reading, spelling, handwriting, or complains of headaches, blurred vision, fatigue. In that case, this may indicate binocular vision or visual processing dysfunction, and your optometrist may recommend vision therapy.

Our team at eyeDOCS is committed to providing engaging and effective eye care for your child. Together, we can help them see and perform their best. Book your child’s eye exam today.
